Hurst
From Camaro Wiki
Hurst is the manufacturer and/or brand name of many OEM and aftermarket high-performance shifters from the 1960's until the present. The famed Hurst shifter was offered as an option on Camaro SS models beginning with the 1996 model year, and became an option on all 6-speed equipped Camaros in the 2000 model year. The RPO code, beginning in 2000, was BBS, and the option cost $325.00. The option also replaced the standard round shift knob with an "ergonomically" shaped learther wrapped knob embossed with the H Hurst logo. The Hurst shifter offered shorter shift throws and a more solid shift feel than the standard stamped-steel shifter. The Hurst shifter consisted of an alloy casting attached to a cut steel plate. The standard factory stick was used with the Hurst shifter. Hurst offered this shifter as an aftermarket item under the name Competiton Plus. It was avalable with a variety of sticks and shifter knobs. This shifter is internally adjustable for shift feel through the use of removeable springs. Hurst later replaced the Competition Plus for the aftermarket with the Billet Plus which featured billet aluminum parts and adjustable stops to limit stick travel.
In November 2009 Hurst will debut a new "Hurst Camaro" based on the 5th generation, 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. A SEMA show special will be built with a new Hurst Billet/Plus2 "Hard-Driveā¢" shifter with red anodized aluminum handle, new Hurst 20"x9" front, 20"x10" rear polished forged wheels, and various Hurst branded badges and touches throughout the exterior and interior. Exterior will also feature a custom Hurst black, red, and grey paint scheme. The same Hurst Billet/Plus2 shifter without the red anodized aluminum handle is available for purchase to the general public and will fit 6 speed Camaros with the T-6060 transmission.
